One of Derry’s most iconic landmarks – Free Derry Corner – has been painted pink by the Gasyard Féile organisers. It’s a nice gesture for Derry’s gay community and the Gay Pride celebrations which will be held in the city in August. It’s also rather fitting, considering that Free Derry Corner is all about freedom.
The colour will be changed back after the Gay Pride celebrations are over on 18th August.
Just over a month ago Fujitsu announced that they were setting up shop in Derry with 300+ jobs. Now Stream – one of the longest established IT companies in Derry – has announced another 300 jobs and the creation of new premises in the Waterside area of the city:
The company has an office in the Ulster Science and Technology Park on Buncrana Road and will also open new premises on the Waterside.
Manager-director Jeff Jennings said that they have already started recruiting.
“We’re looking for a broad range of people so it’s not going to be all technical support like the jobs in the past within Stream,” he said.
“We will be looking for people with good customer services experience and from all age groups – people with good empathy – now we are starting to chase the silver surfers, as they call them, the older people getting into broadband.”
These jobs are badly needed here in the North West. Fujitsu had a massive response when they started advertising their new positions, I suppose it won’t be much different with Stream. If only they paid decent wages!
I just noticed that 123-reg started using Ubuntu on their web hosting servers. They offer it on their dedicated hosting plans, I couldn’t see a mention for the shared plans but suppose it is the same. According to their site they are the first ones to use Ubuntu.

John just surpassed himself on the National ITV news. The interviewer asked
“What message do you have for the bombers” – he replied “This is Glasgow
we’ll just set about you”
John done an interview on CNN and they asked how he restrained the guy and he said “me and other folk were just tryin to get the boot in and some other guy banjoed him”!
